Free Heat Safety Tools for Schools

National Stay Cool Day free school resources banner: Equip your campus. Protect your athletes. Heat safety, classroom tools and coach resources.

National Stay Cool Day offers free planning tools for coaches, athletic trainers and school administrators. Each one turns your school’s own details into a finished document you can print, post and share with your staff.

Cool first. Transport second. In an emergency, call 911.

There is no account and no cost. Each tool runs in your web browser, and nothing you type is sent to National Stay Cool Day or stored anywhere else. You can save your progress on your own device and come back later.

Emergency Action Plan Builder

Walk through your school, venues, activities, people and backups, equipment, heat conditions and cooling steps. The builder also covers what to do if more than one athlete goes down at once, plus other emergencies. At the end you download a plan with your school’s name on every page, ready to post at each venue, keep in the athletic office and share with your local emergency medical services provider.

Heat Rules Card

Choose your state and venue, decide who checks heat conditions and when, and enter the reading where each of your five heat levels begins. The readings are left blank on purpose, so fill them in from your state association’s heat chart and confirm them with your medical team. Download a one-page card to laminate and post where practice decisions get made. Make one card for each venue.

14-Day Acclimatization Schedule

Enter your sport and your first practice date to get a dated, day-by-day plan for the first 14 days of practice. It is based on published guidelines for secondary school athletics. The schedule handles rest days and double-practice days for you, and it leaves space for your athletic trainer and administrator to sign off. Check your state association’s rules too, since they may be stricter.
